Welcome from the President

The Boston Chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), Inc., welcomes you to Fiscal Year 2008.   One of key elements of FY 2008’s strategic plan is to elevate NABA Boston's level of service to our members and to our Corporate and Institutional Partners, while simultaneously putting a greater emphasis on assessment of member capacity and ability to serve NABA Boston’s constituents.  Below are some of a few of Fiscal Year 2007’s accomplishments:

Key Fiscal Year 2007 Accomplishments:

  • Maintained and serviced relationships with 1 Corporate and Institutional Partnerships.  Over 72 student and professionals activities were held during the year with increased membership participation to having an average of 60% of member in attendance at most events.
  • Maintained approximately 65% of prior year’s membership and our total membership include a 17% increase in the number of new members.
  • Provided $63,000.00 (rounded to nearest 100) in scholarship awards to Students attending college/university at one of NABA Boston’s metropolitan or Bentley College Chapters. Scholarships are awarded in conjunction with Corporate and Institutional Partnership programs and NABA Boston.  The total scholarships awarded were the single largest scholarship awards by any other NABA chapter.
  • Partnered with Corporate Partners and Professional members to ensure that approximately 100% of qualified active Student members, were either placed in an intern position or with full-time employment.
  • Collaborated with 4 other Minority Professional organizations to plan the 19th Annual United Minority Professional Holiday Party (UMP) in December 2006.  This was a Black tie optional event where approximately 1500 people were in attendance.
 Plans for Fiscal Year 2008:
  • Develop a Scholarship Endowment Fund to secure Corpus for future generations of NABA members.
  • Determine the capacity of Corporate Partners we are able to effectively serve and limit that number.  All other interested Corporations to be placed on a wait list.
  • Maintain all prior years Corporate and Institutional Partners.
  • Maintain relationship with Institutional Partners and obtain 1 new Institutional Partners -  College or University
  • Obtain two additional scholarship for Students from other organizations or institutions, committed to the business profession
  • Increase Membership by 180 from 150 in FY 07 and maintain active membership of all 2006members who reside in the Boston metropolitan in FY 2007.
  • Increase outreach of Financial Literacy Programs - We intend to reach over 100 individuals to discuss financial awareness programs and suggest vehicles where they may be able to get additional financial advice.
  • Develop a 1 to 1 mentoring program for members with 10+ years experience with Corporate Partners and other business related organizations with 10+ years experience in Senior Management positions.
  • Create a Quarterly Newsletter to feature happenings with NABA Boston with a feature to showcase our Corporate Partners, Professionals and Students

Membership has it’s benefits. This fiscal year we are placing more emphasis on having members and corporate partners experience the benefits of its membership/partnership.  We will develop programs around the core group of those individuals that indicate their need and will run programs where MEMBERS will participate at no additional cost and other would have attendance fees. Additionally, Partners will be invited to participate in an Advisory Board, participate in sharing thoughts/expertise through our Quarterly Newsletter, and post Jobs on our website.  All partners would have an opportunity to sponsor our activities throughout the year based on their level of Corporate Partner participation level. I am excited about strengthening our chapter through strengthened opportunities for our students, corporate and professional members.  You too can become a member
