Northern Lights Northern Light's is a fairly new Internet search engine that I particularly like. Not only are the searches powerful, the key differentiator about this site is that it actually organizes the information in to logical and usable folders for you. So instead of giving you 2,000,000 responses to your inquiry, it gives you 5 or 6 folders that house those documents to help narrow your search. The folders are not pre-set. they are created specifically according to your search request. You can also refine your search even further by doing a Power Search, a Business Search, an Investext Search, News Search or a Stock Quote Search. Click on cities from Albany to Wichita to link directly to 35 weekly Business Journals covering each. Hoovers Online This enormous database provides profiles of major U.S. companies, international corporations, and emerging, growth-oriented firms. The profiles trace the history of each company, review recent developments, describe current products and major competitors, and offer financial data from the company's SEC filings and annual reports. Business Wire This site calls itself "the global leader in news distribution," and it's definitely not a site to be ignored. You can get up-to-the-hour information and even look up news on geographical regions, tradeshows, or topics from health to banking. There's also corporate and industry specific information. Chamber of Commerce Local business information usually comes from a chamber of commerce. At the Chamber of Commerce International Directory, you can search by state and city for a particular chamber of commerce website. Some hyperlinks contain extensive information while others just include a phone number. Reuters When it comes to "the business of information," it's hard to beat Reuters, which draws on information from 5,000 subscribers and 2,000 journalists. This site is top-notch and its only drawback is that it's almost overwhelmingly jammed full with financial information.
